A Typographic Quest, Number 6, Etcetera
Etcetera simply means ‘and the rest’– a phrase used to indicate additional items too numerous to mention. Carl Dair likely chose this title because, in this final booklet of the series, he addresses the many small but essential tasks that contribute to good typography – tasks he referred to as ‘joe jobs’. Today, we might describe them as the countless details that, when handled properly, elevate a design from amateurish to professional.
