Epistles to the Torontonians
With articles from Canadian Printer & Publisher
In 1956, Carl Dair received a grant to apprentice at the Dutch type foundry Enschedé under master letter engraver Paul Rädisch. During his time in Europe, Dair wrote letters to friends in Canada, sharing his experiences, the places he visited, and the people he met. These letters became known as his Epistles to the Torontonians. This book reproduces those letters in manuscript form, followed by articles Dair wrote for Canadian Printer & Publisher on the subject of type – particularly his development of Cartier, the first Canadian Latin text face.
