History of the Book in Canada, Volume 1, Beginnings to 1840

In 1997, a team of historians, librarians, and literary scholars from across Canada joined the growing global movement to study print culture on a national scale. Their task: to produce a comprehensive history of the book in Canada. Volume One of The History of the Book in Canada – the first in a three-volume collaborative project—explores the role of print in shaping the political, religious, intellectual, and cultural life of the colonies that would later form Canada.
